01 / Why Shield of Steel

Six reasons
officers stay.

We don't pretend to be the highest-paying firm in Tennessee. We try to be the best-run. If that matters to you, read on — and if it doesn't, this probably isn't your company.

Reason · 01$24+

Honest starting pay.

Unarmed from $22/hr, armed from $24/hr, patrol drivers from $25/hr. Shift differential for nights and weekends. We publish the range in the listing — no sliding scales, no bait-and-switch.

Reason · 02W-2

Real employment.

Every officer is a W-2 employee. Not 1099, not day-labour, not a "contractor." Workers' comp, unemployment, Social Security, and a real HR department behind you.

Reason · 0340 hrs

Paid training, day one.

40 hours of paid onboarding before your first solo shift. Classroom, scenario, and in-service. Range qualification included for armed candidates — we cover the fee.

Reason · 04Named

A supervisor who knows you.

Every officer reports to a named, credentialed field supervisor — not an anonymous scheduling line. You'll meet them before your first shift and you'll have their cell number.

Reason · 05Promoted

Promotion from within.

Every field supervisor, regional director, and leadership role in the company was promoted from the line. No outside hires above the officer tier in the last nine years.

Reason · 06$1,500

Veterans welcome.

$1,500 sign-on bonus for verified veterans and first-responder retirees (paid at 90 days). We are SDVOSB-certified and the management team is majority veteran.

05 / Hiring Process

Application to
first shift 7 days.

No ghosting, no multi-round interview gauntlet. Here's exactly what happens after you hit submit — and who you'll be talking to at each step.

01
Day 0 · Apply

Submit application

Five-minute form. Resume optional. We respond within one business day — every single time.

02
Day 1 · Screen

Recruiter call

20-minute phone screen with our recruiter. Scope your experience, confirm the role fits, answer every question you have about the company.

03
Day 2–3 · Meet

Supervisor interview

In-person or video interview with the field supervisor you'd report to. They run the post; they decide who works it.

04
Day 4–6 · Check

Background & drug screen

FBI fingerprint, MVR, drug screen, reference calls. We cover every fee. Fast-track for veterans with DD-214.

05
Day 7 · Onboard

Paid onboarding

40 hours of paid training over the first two weeks. Then a supervised first post with the supervisor on-site for the first shift.

06 / Application

Start your
application now.

Takes about five minutes. A recruiter will reach out within one business day — often the same day if you apply before 4 p.m. CST. Prefer to talk first? Call the recruiter line 24/7.

A note on honesty If there's something in your background you're worried about — a lapsed licence, an old charge, a thin resume — say so on the form. We'd rather hear it from you than find it in the FBI check. We have hired plenty of officers with complicated histories; we don't hire people who hide them.
